Miami HEAT legend and the team’s best player for the past 13 years, Dwyane Wade, is leaving his adopted home for his actual hometown of Chicago. He’ll join the Bulls who are in a transition period after losing mainstays: Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah.
Dwyane Wade has informed the Bulls he plans to sign a deal with them, sources tell @TheVertical. Bulls sending out contracts now.

Wade has consistently taken pay-cuts throughout his entire career in Miami. Putting his own ego aside and always looking for the best of the team seemed to be his mantra throughout his career. In 13 seasons, the Marquette alum never had the highest salary on the team; many of those years being paid less than Chris Bosh, Shaquille O’Neal and Jermaine O’Neal. This fact certainly rubbed him the wrong way after all these years.
He’d had been reported saying he was interested in a two-year deal with the HEAT worth an estimated 50 mil. However, with Miami paying Hassan Whiteside, and already having the mammoth contract to Bosh and Goran Dragic taking up a lot of the cap, they could only afford to pay him 40 million over two years. If the 12-time all star were to have taken the offer from the HEAT, he would only be the third highest paid player on the team, behind Bosh and Whiteside. It is also easy to see why returning to the HEAT isn’t the most enticing option for the 34 year-old. Bosh’s health has been uncertain and questionable for the better part of two years now. As well, the team seems to be caught between issuing a rebuild with their younger core, and still competing at a high level in the East.
The move from the Bulls perspective is a curious one. Adding Wade to a back court with Bulls newcomer Rajon Rondo is interesting and could turn out effective, but there’s no way of knowing what the tandem could be like together on the court until we actually get to see them play. Both are inconsistent shooters and require the ball in their hands to be effective though so the chances of it being a not so effective duo is also possible.
