NFL Pick’off – Week 7

stevan-ridley-6

Want to find out the winning formula for NFL Sunday?

Each Sunday I’ll make my selections “Straight-Up” (SU) and “Against The Spread” (ATS) from the slate of games.

The team listed in bold is the straight up pick, where as the red +/- indicates the pick when including the Vegas line.

I’ll provide a brief sentence or two of nonsense or logic (depending on the outcome), for what led me to that choice.

I’ll be competing against Catch-22’s NFL Senior Editor (Mark Staniusz) throughout the season, and I will list his picks below.

Week 6 Results:

Phil 8-5 SU / 6-5-2 ATS

Staniusz 7-6  SU / 7-4-2 ATS

PHIL PICKS…

NY Giants (-3) @ Los Angeles

The Giants have beaten the Rams in six straight games dating back over 15 years. This game goes early from London, and you know Odell wants to shine in front of the Brits. Speaking of Brits, Kenny Britt impressed me last week against the Lions. He’ll help keep LA competitive, but a small (slightly stellar) sample size from Case Keenum isn’t enough to sway my selection.

Minnesota (-3) @ Philadelphia

I’m still not 100% confident with this pick, I keep waiting for the Vikings to fall back to earth. At this stage, the Eagles regression is more concerning when having to pick a winner between two surprisingly competent teams.

New Orleans (+6) @ Kansas City

These teams don’t play very often, and New Orleans has had surprisingly decent results in KC over the years for a dome team. We’re not going to be a hero this week again, but Drew Brees provides a back door cover to make this game seem closer than it looks.

Washington @ Detroit (-1.5)

Washington has won 4 in a row and has resuscitated their season after an 0-2 start. The Lions are an injury riddled gambling enigma, and no result would surprise me here. The Redskins are missing a couple of weapons on offence that would have changed the outcome of this game. Matt Prater for another game winning FG.

Cleveland (+10) @ Cincinnati

Like a one-eyed cat, lurking in a seafood store…

Buffalo (-3) @ Miami

This has all the makings of a Buffalo letdown. I can’t bring myself to make the heat wrenching pick though. I would stay away from this game.

Oakland @ Jacksonville (-1)

The Raiders have never won in Jacksonville. Ever. It’s tempting to ride with a team that’s 3-0 on the road, but then we’re admitting that the Raiders are actually good. If Oakland wins this game (as they should), they’ll have my attention. Until then… they’re still the Raiders.

Indianapolis @ Tennessee (-2)

The Colts found a way to lose that game last week to the Texans. It was excruciating to watch, especially with some money riding on the Luck train. Ugh?! What a face plant by Indy. I’m done with this Colts team, and I hope the Titans exact some revenge for me.

Baltimore (+2) @ NY Jets

Geno Smith’s not walking through that door anytime soon. Oh wait, he is… I’m not sure that’s a good thing. If the Jets win this game, it will be a minor miracle.

San Diego @ Atlanta (-6)

Did you know the Chargers are 1-8 lifetime against the Falcons? That’s enough to convince me that Atlanta will win this game. However, I’m not confident they’ll cover the 6. Although, last time they played, the Falcons won by 24… Atlanta, Georgia, is kryptonite to San Diego. It’s a historical and scientific fact.

Tampa Bay (PICK) @ San Francisco

Rolling the dice on this one… Bucs win on the road. Let me just leave this here before I change my mind and do something foolish. What could go wrong?!

New England (-7) @ Pittsburgh

The injury to Big Ben complicates this more than trying to complete a rubik cube underwater. Landry Jones? Surely, you can’t be serious about the Steelers winning this game?! Tablet or no tablet, Belichick and the Pats romp at Heinz.

Seattle (+1) @ Arizona

The Cal football program unveiled its Marshawn Lynch golf cart bobblehead recently and I got nostalgic for Beast Mode. I mean, I legitimately miss the dude running on Sundays.

2016 Season: 41-38 (SU) / 31-44-4 (ATS)
